Ukrainian Borshch in Fukuoka

On January 25, 2026, a Ukrainian borshch cooking workshop was held in Fukuoka at the restaurant Pizza & Pasta Campagnola. The workshop was led by Iryna, a representative of the Ukrainian Association of Fukuoka Prefecture (UAFukuoka).

The invitation from the restaurant’s owner, Mr. Kazumi Inaga, was a warm and pleasant gesture. Interest in Ukrainian cuisine is steadily growing within the Japanese community, and borshch is often one of the first dishes through which people get to know Ukrainian food traditions.

During the workshop, participants cooked together:

  • borshch with pork ribs and dried porcini mushrooms
  • garlic pampushky with dill and parsley
  • beet salad with herbs and fresh cheese

The event was not only about cooking. Participants also talked about Ukraine, its culture, and traditions in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Conversations, questions, and shared work in the kitchen made the experience feel open and welcoming.

Events like this show how food can be a simple and sincere way to connect people and build mutual understanding beyond language and borders.
