On April 19, 2026, UAFukuoka (Ukrainian Association in Fukuoka Prefecture) held a traditional Ukrainian Easter egg painting workshop dedicated to Pysanka at Kego Kominkan in Tenjin, Fukuoka.
The event was organized in celebration of Easter and aimed to introduce participants to Ukrainian culture through one of its most meaningful Easter traditions — the creation of Pysanka.
During the workshop, we introduced the history of Pysanka, the symbolism behind traditional ornaments, the meanings of colors, and the techniques used in traditional egg decoration.
Participants had the opportunity to create their own unique Pysanka by hand, adding personal wishes, symbols, and meanings to their designs. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and both Japanese and Ukrainian participants showed great interest in the process.
A total of about 15 people joined the workshop. For many of them, it was their first experience with this Ukrainian Easter tradition and a valuable opportunity to connect more deeply with Ukrainian culture through hands-on practice.
UAFukuoka will continue organizing cultural events that help strengthen the connection between Ukraine and Japan while promoting Ukrainian traditions in Fukuoka.
